Long Arm Quilting

Some Things To Consider:
·        Quilt Top When borders are not measured correctly, dog ears and ruffed borders will form. We will try to ease in the excess fabric as we quilt, but if there’s more than we can handle, we’ll fold the excess and stitch over it.

·        Backing  Is your backing at least 3" larger all the way around than your top?
Backing is the foundation of your quilt. It supports the top as well as the batting; it allows for pinning the top and bottom of the fabric and using side clamps.
The larger backing accommodates the top and batting if they shift when they are rolled up on the long-arm machine pickup bar.
Note:   Bed sheets have a finer thread count than quilting fabrics.  The needle holes might be noticeable if a bed sheet is used as a backing.

Tip:  For pieced backing, trim salvage and press seam to one side.
If using a heavy fabric such as Minki, finger press seam open.
Press out center fold lines to decrease chances of getting tucks or pleats.
Let your quilter know if you want the back seam centered on your quilt.

·        Batting    What type of batting do you want?
We use Quilters Dream batting. We carry Select grade of loft. See batting choices on racks.
Note:   You can bring your own batting. If you buy pre-packaged batting, remove it from the bag and unfold the batting to get the wrinkles out.
·        Thread   What color thread do you want on your quilt?

Decide if you want the quilting to show or blend on the top.  If your top is a light fabric and the back is a dark fabric, consider that a light thread will stand out on the back. The threads we use are in the long-arm drawer and on the shelves. We use Signature and King Tut threads.
